It was a great pleasure to see you at the Allianz Global Investors Navigating the Future Conference. The event covered a lot of ground, with our leading investors covering areas like technological disruption, productivity and how millennials could change the world of investing.
In my mind there were three particular highlights from the event. The first, was seeing Walter Price cover where he sees valuations currently, and how this is impacting his management of the Allianz Technology Trust. Walter is a seasoned investor with over 44 years’ experience, and in his Q&A I was particularly impressed by how positive he was on technology stocks for 2018. Walter believes that earnings are more than capable of keeping up with valuations, and remains bullish that 2018 can be another positive year.
Secondly, I enjoyed the chance to hear how those investing in more traditional asset classes like UK and Global equities are dealing with the potential of disruption, when Simon Gergel, manager of The Merchants Trust, and Lucy Macdonald, manager of The Brunner Investment Trust, spoke to Lawrence Gosling. They covered how they mix traditional value opportunities with more growth-oriented stocks, and how they avoid choosing those companies that are on the brink of disruption.
Interestingly, Chris Sanderson of The Future Laboratory provided an external perspective on the big global trends shaping the future. Of particular interest were his observations on the rise of the millennials, and what this means for financial services. With a different belief system to the generations before them, and a keener interest in making a difference and investing in companies that suit these beliefs, the millennials could change how money is being run. They could upend traditional portfolio management, with the growth of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) one potential result.
In this follow-up guide you can find a short summary of each of the segments of the event, plus some more information on the three Allianz Global Investors investment trusts.
Thank you for attending.
